WILD HORSES OF SHANNON COUNTY - A PHOTO ESSAY
Some say they are leftovers from the days of the Spanish Conquistadors. The less romantics insist they are remnants of abandoned horses from the loggers who followed the railroads into the Ozarks after the turn of the century. Regardless, they still roam the wild country between the Current and Jacks Fork Rivers deep in Shannon County of the Missouri Ozarks. Like ghosts they appear suddenly and, at times, vanish just as quickly. My first encounter with they seemed an apparition.
